Final Project: Organic Mash Potatoes

I made one of my favorite dishes Mash Potatoes.  It's simple, easy to make and delicious!

I went to the Farmers Market in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn.

I brought organic red potatoes, organic garlic & a quart of organic grass fed cow milk for $15.50.  The butter I had at home.

I started off by washing & peeling the potatoes.

After washing & peeling, I cut the potatoes into the pan.

I boiled it in the pan for about 25minutes.

In the mean time I roasted the garlic for 25minutes as well.

After the potatoes were fully boiled & strained, I combined the roasted garlic, milk and butter in the pan.

I began mashing the potatoes with all the ingrediants in low heat.  I also added a sprinkle of parmesan cheese that I had at home.

After complete it was ready to serve!

Essay 4

My response to 'The Dangers of Reality T.V" is that the writer explains the dangerous message that reality T.V sends.  The importance of competition, how a person looks versus how a person accomplishes there tasks and the lock of education needed.  One thing in particular that caught my attention was the importance of competition.  The reason why I find that important to me is because in field where I work, competition is very important in order to succeed.

The author explains that reality television supports the old belief, that competition is the only way you can succeed in today's economy.  He believes that most businesses want to become a monopoly and that this is why companies are shrinking due to mergers and acquisitions.  I agree that competition is the key to success.  I believe this because in the jewelry company that I work in, we like to be the top of our industry.  We recently just bought out one of our key competitors in the jewelry manufacturer industry.  By doing this it only leaves the top three jewelry manufacturers in the world and we currently hold the number one spot for bridal rings.  Eliminating the competition gives our customers less of a choice on who and where to buy there jewelry from.

In order to become the top in your class, your options must be limitless and spend money to make money.  That is how a company grows to become a monopoly.  Think of it this way.  You’re a small manufacture taking order here and there and not really going anywhere as far as growth goes.  Then you have a big manufacture across the country where the manufacturer is doing everything in its power by marketing their products, giving specific terms with jewelers who are buying a large amount, and offering the best service possible.  The bigger manufacturer will succeed and will have the option to buy out its competitors by becoming a monopoly. There is also a down side to becoming a monopoly because growing too fast might result in a big fall if you cannot handle it.

In conclusion, although becoming a monopoly might be very risky.  I believe you need to take risks in order to succeed in this world.  By taking a risk you’re competing to become the best and that is how you can succeed in today’s economy and become a monopoly.

How can I feel like I am not in a reality show when every single move I do or anything I say is being watched or recorded.  Social media controls the world we live in today.  When I update my status on Facebook or "Tweet" it shows the exact time and location.  Everyone knows what was on my mind at the moment and where I was.  Now if someone gets too carried away with what they say on social media frequently that can harm the lives of others, they can be reprimanded by the higher power which is know as the "Big Brother".  Your "tweet" can be "trending" on Twitter and have the entire world see.  As I drive to work on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) there are cameras watching me when I am speeding or in dead stop traffic.  Your location is known all the time by the local authorities which the GPS you have on your phone and the GPS in your car.  From the cameras, they know how many times you went through the bridges and tunnels.  They also know what time you went through them and if you spoke to anyone on the phone.  In conclusion you are being watched constantly which makes me feel like I am in a reality show.

Blog Entry 3-I Know the Truth

An argument erupted when there were talks about building a Mosque in downtown Manhattan.  Ohio State University conducted a study to find out that when false information was given to individuals, what will it take to have them not believe the false information anymore.  R. Kelly  Garrett and Erik Nisbet who were both professors of communication at Ohio State University conducted a test to 750 people who believed at least one rumor about the Mosque and wanted to know if they showed the facts, would it change there mind and in which way should it be shown.  Both Garrett and Nisbet were presented with two answers that they were not looking for.  The first one is that it was easy to change peoples minds with pictures and quotes and two is that even in the best scenario lets than one third are willing to change their minds regardless of the evidence shown.  Although when people with false beliefs are willing to learn the facts it still does not help them change their mind.  Garrett believes that even if they are shown the facts, they still stick to what they first believe in.  Other studies are being tested to see if why is this happening.

This happens often in the real world to everyone.  For example at work when I am in a meeting with my clients and I try to show to them that we are a better Jewelry manufacturing company then others.  They sometimes wouldn’t believe until I show them the number as far as how much volume we can handle and how quickly we can manufacture the products without any problems.  I believe that you have to be open minded to others and absorb their ideas to see what they believe and compare them with yours, then you can see who’s “facts” make sense more.

The authors main point is about advertisement and how it part of our daily lives.  Kalle Lasn states that advertisement is everywhere.  Billboards are a major part of advertisement because as I drive 13 miles to work and school everyday on the BQE I pass by 10-15 billboards.  Just a 5 block radius from the school there is about 7 billboards.  These take interest in everybody, weather its a new energy drink or a car dealership having a promotion.

As I drive every morning to work and school, I listen to Z100 and at least every 10-15 minutes there is a advertisement where they are trying to promote a new product or a new movie is coming out which lures people in to spending there money.

Although to much advertisement isn't good there is a positive side the author did not point out.  All these advertisements that are put on the billboards, radios channels, televisions etc. create jobs.
