My response to 'The Dangers of
Reality T.V" is that the writer explains the dangerous message that
reality T.V sends. The importance of competition, how a person looks
versus how a person accomplishes there tasks and the lock of education needed.
One thing in particular that caught my attention was the importance of
competition. The reason why I find that important to me is because in
field where I work, competition is very important in order to succeed.
The author explains that reality
television supports the old belief, that competition is the only way you can
succeed in today's economy. He believes that most businesses want to
become a monopoly and that this is why companies are shrinking due to mergers
and acquisitions. I agree that competition is the key to success. I
believe this because in the jewelry company that I work in, we like to be the
top of our industry. We recently just bought out one of our key
competitors in the jewelry manufacturer industry. By doing this it only
leaves the top three jewelry manufacturers in the world and we currently hold
the number one spot for bridal rings. Eliminating the competition gives
our customers less of a choice on who and where to buy there jewelry from.
In order to become the top in
your class, your options must be limitless and spend money to make money.
That is how a company grows to become a monopoly. Think of it this
way. You’re a small manufacture taking order here and there and not
really going anywhere as far as growth goes. Then you have a big
manufacture across the country where the manufacturer is doing everything in
its power by marketing their products, giving specific terms with jewelers who
are buying a large amount, and offering the best service possible. The
bigger manufacturer will succeed and will have the option to buy out its
competitors by becoming a monopoly. There is also a down side to becoming a
monopoly because growing too fast might result in a big fall if you cannot handle
it.
In conclusion, although becoming
a monopoly might be very risky. I believe you need to take risks in order
to succeed in this world. By taking a risk you’re competing to become the
best and that is how you can succeed in today’s economy and become
a monopoly.
